this site is dedicated to my father, Don Howard.
He is a much loved father, grandfather and 'big' grandad.
He was born in St Albans, living there all his life.
He joined the Royal Marines at the age of 18 and took part in the D Day landings on Gold beach and was then sent out to the Pacific, finally being demobbed in 1946. These were among the proudest memories of his life.

He married Maisie Joyce in 1945 and had three children.

He was a bus driver for most of his life, and the war had given him the travel bug, and with his trusty old dormobile and a pile of camping gear, we travelled most of Europe, very much dependant on his mechanical skills to get us home.

He died on another of his trips, while paying his respects to his friends in Normandy, he was taken ill on 5th June and died in hospital in Caen.

He will be missed by all his family and friends, he left us some wonderful memories.

Our Dad

for all of us, this has been the hardest year, so many memories, times when we laugh and look round for you to enjoy the joke and find you are not there to share it with us.
Flowers were laid at the memorial in Arromanches this year, so that you could share in the D Day service you missed last year. From the poem that was read at the funeral, 'if we forgot to thank you then, we are thanking you now, for being
'our dad' we could not have wished for a better one.
